Privacy Policy

Overview

Dinologue is an encyclopedia of Mesozoic life that runs on your phone. It has no account system, no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising, and Maykrware LLC runs no server for it. The app does not collect personal data of any kind: its App Store privacy label is "Data Not Collected", and its Google Play data safety form declares no data collected or shared.

What the app stores on your device

A small amount of information, kept in the app's own storage on your device: the species you mark as favorites, your quiz scores and daily challenge streak, your appearance setting and news source choices, and news stories you save or that are cached for offline reading. None of it is sent anywhere. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it, and "Clear news cache" in Settings removes the cached stories at any time. There is no cloud backup or sync.

News

News is the only part of the app that uses the internet. When the News tab refreshes, your device requests the public feeds of the publishers listed in Settings → News sources directly from those publishers. Like any web request, this lets the publisher see your device's IP address and the app's name and version. No account, identifier or information about what you read is included, and Maykrware LLC does not receive any of it. When you open a story, it loads in an in-app browser on the publisher's own page, where that publisher's privacy policy applies.

What the app does not do

It does not create an account for you or ask for your name or email. It does not use analytics, crash reporting or advertising SDKs. It does not request your location, contacts, camera, microphone or photos. The encyclopedia, the fossil map and its ancient coastlines, the timeline and the quizzes are bundled inside the app and work without a connection.

Third-party data bundled in the app

The species records, fossil sites and map data built into the app come from public datasets, including the Paleobiology Database, Natural Earth and the Müller et al. (2019) plate model, each under its own licence. They were processed once when the app was built; using them involves no data exchange while you use the app. Full credits are in Settings → Data and images.

Children's privacy

Dinologue is intended for readers aged 12 and up. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone of any age, and there is nowhere in the app for such information to go.

Changes to this policy

If what the app collects or stores ever changes, this page will change to describe it accurately, and the date above will be updated.
